Meet Wedding Coordinator – Steph Harborne
Steph Harborne, our Wedding Coordinator, has been in post just over a year, having previously managed a bridal shop so it was all change for Steph when she took over in January 2019.
Here’s a bit more about the woman who works so hard behind the scenes to make every wedding at Hadley Park House a dream day.
Day to day, a lot of my week involves meeting couples who have booked their weddings and going over planning, discussing menus and updating contracts. There are also new couples to meet and show them around the hotel. I make sure there is time to listen to what they want from a wedding before suggesting a package or bespoke wedding. From Thursday to Sunday, depending on the time of year, I will be at the hotel from first thing until early evening making sure everything runs like clockwork on the day.
The best part of my role is building rapport and using all of my people skills to make sure that everyone has a stress free and enjoyable day. This year I have introduced a range of seasonal wedding packages so that brides have options and everyone knows what extra elements they need to organise – no nasty surprises!
We’ve also introduced a tasting menu when 6 people can come and sample 6 different starters, mains and desserts to ensure they make the right choice for their special day all for just £100.
My biggest challenge is the amount of detail involved in planning a wedding and liaising with other departments and external suppliers. I have to make sure I have double checked every detail and communicated this to everyone so that the actual wedding days goes without a hitch.
This isn’t a problem as everyone at Hadley Park works really well together and on the day Fran, our master of ceremonies, ensures that everything runs smoothly. The whole team is amazing, last August we had a wedding every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and every department from housekeeping to bar staff, from the waiting staff to the chefs and kitchen staff kept up our high standards, so every couple had the same amazing experience.
I also get involved in things like photo shoots, entering awards and organising our Wedding Fayres and Open Days where we dress the hotel as a wedding venue so couples can really see what each room could look like on their special day.
This year, we are noticing a lot of rustic themes, with natural materials, some ceremonies are starting later around 3pm with guests going straight into an evening party and our Mad Hatters Wedding Afternoon Tea package is also proving very popular.
At the moment, we are refurbishing our extensive gardens to improve our outdoor wedding experience, which includes having a gazebo build to cope with anything the weather can throw at us.
It’s lovely working in a small, exclusive venue which is still a family-run business. We have an amazing team, everyone works together, nothing is too much trouble and we pay great attention to detail which means everyone gets a very personal service and makes us one of the best wedding venues in Shropshire.
