GUESTS STEAL HOTEL HISTORY BOOK

The history of a Shropshire hotel is so fascinating to guests that they have repeatedly stolen specially bound books put inside hotel bedrooms.

Hotelier Mark Lewis said that 30 copies of a 50 page booklet on the history of Hadley Park House in Telford had vanished over the past few months.

Guests had ignored a polite plea written on the front of the books, not to remove them from the hotel.

“The house does have a fascinating history so we thought we would document it all in a specially bound folder which we put into the bedrooms for guests to read. But they obviously felt it was so interesting they just couldn’t put it down and they have taken it home with them.”

The laminated folder contains details on the three storey Georgian mansion, a grade two listed building, dating from the 1750’s and home to a number of prominent Shropshire families.

Thomas Telford stayed at the house when he worked on the design for the nearby Hadley Park lock gates for the Shrewsbury canal. The entrance to the site was from Hadley Park Road which now forms part of the Silkin Way.

The folder also contained copies of original sale documents, deeds, maps, wills and a chronicle of the families who had lived at the house.

“It is a good read so we are having them re-printed and just hope that they will leave them behind this time,” said Mark.

SAT NAV SENDS HOTEL GUESTS WRONG WAY

Visitors to a Shropshire hotel are being repeatedly sent the wrong way by their sat navs.

Guests are left stranded half a mile away from their destination unable to find the entrance to the Hadley Park House Hotel in Telford.

Delivery drivers too are left scratching their heads as they are directed onto the Silkin Way in Leegomery, said hotelier Mark Lewis.

“It is a real problem. We get five or six calls every day from lost guests and suppliers who have been sent the wrong way by their sat navs.”

The hotel’s postcode directs drivers to Hadley Park Road and they then have to find their way back down the A442 to Hadley Park island before taking the exit down a short road leading to the hotel.

Recession Buster Workshops updated for 2010 at the newly upgraded Hadley Park House Hotel

In July 2009 a number of local businesses signed up for the Recession Buster series of workshops which were developed by Icon Business Solutions and supported by the Shropshire Chamber of commerce. These were designed to help members of the Shropshire Business community to buck the trend of the global economy at the time and to grow their business in difficult trading times.

Seven months into the twelve month programme the response from delegates from a wide variety of Shropshire based manufacturing and service companies has been excellent. Gary Halpin of Icon commented, “We generally work one-to-one with business owners but we were being asked by smaller businesses, from start up to around £150,000 turnover for help. We developed this programme so that we can pass on our support in a way that is cost effective and time efficient for these companies. We have been so delighted with the response that we have decided to run the series again - the county is emerging slowly from the recession and we know that local business owners will be keen to access this support to ensure their success.”

Another change is that the venue for the new workshops will be at the Hadley Park House Hotel which is undergoing an exciting expansion with new conference facilities that will be available from Easter. Mark Lewis the proprietor of hotel said, “ Having spoken to Johnny and Gary of Icon I was impressed with their business knowledge and how they produce simple solutions for the overworked business owners. I am looking forward to hosting their workshops and show casing our new facilities”.
